Architecture
Full architectural services from initial concept design through to detailed documentation for council approval, contractor tendering and construction. I act as Principal Agent under the standard JBCC building contract — administering and managing the project through construction, and ensuring the building is completed to standard and in compliance with national energy regulations.

Project Management
Project management for new buildings as well as alterations and additions. This includes managing the tender process, assisting with contractor and subcontractor appointments, overseeing on-site construction, resolving design and technical issues as they arise, and ensuring quality control through to final inspection. JBCC contract administration is provided for the full duration.

Technical Consulting
Investigation and resolution of construction and design failures — including leaking roofs, damp and defective building details. Services include diagnosing the problem, developing practical solutions, preparing documentation for contractor pricing, assisting with contractor appointment, and overseeing remedial work to ensure it is properly completed.

Sustainable Building & Services
Advice on sustainable building techniques to reduce a building’s carbon footprint over its lifespan. I work closely with service consultants to optimise electrical, mechanical (air-conditioning) and water systems — ensuring compliance with national energy-efficiency regulations while reducing long-term operational and monthly running costs.

Consultation & brief
We discuss your site, your vision and your budget. I assess the opportunities and constraints, and set out how the project could unfold.

Concept design
I translate the brief into a design that responds to orientation, climate and the surrounding environment — balancing creativity with buildability.

Documentation & approval
Detailed drawings are prepared for council approval, energy compliance and contractor tendering, so pricing is accurate and comparable.

Tender & appointment
I manage the tender process and assist with appointing the right contractor and subcontractors under a JBCC building contract.

Construction & oversight
As Principal Agent I run the site — resolving issues, controlling quality and administering the contract through to final inspection and handover.

Who do you work with?
Clients building houses, apartments or offices, or needing renovations — residential clients, developers and organisations across South Africa, with a primary focus on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard.
What does “Principal Agent” mean for me?
One person is contractually responsible for administering the JBCC building contract and managing the project through construction — so quality, compliance and coordination sit with me, not spread thinly across separate parties.
Do you handle alterations and additions, not just new builds?
Yes. Since 2012 much of my work has been extensive alterations and additions to distinctive existing homes, alongside new-build residences.
How does sustainability affect cost?
Good sustainable design reduces monthly running costs over the life of the building. I work with service consultants to optimise electrical, mechanical and water systems while meeting national energy-efficiency regulations.
